So while we were in service this past Thursday, we decided to take a little short cut to the territory. Now when you hear 'short cut' here in Ecuador, it can mean literally ANYTHING. The "normal" roads, would be considered 'short cuts' (or worse) in the states, so you can only imagine what a 'short cut' here amounts to:)
Well on our 'short cut' to the territory, we came across a ginormous truck stuck in a huge pile of mud in the middle of the road. There were 2 young women with shovels trying to get this truck unstuck, while a man directed them with what to do (the man unfortunately lost one of his hands, so he wasn't able to help shovel with the women)
....So what did that mean for us?
Romero & Wes to the rescue!
Once the ladies handed over the shovels to the guys, they decided to take a breather, and as most of the local women do here, knit something:)
Not only was it difficult to shovel out the mud, but there were several heavy rocks that needed to be moved as well-not an easy task
Even though we were in our service attire, we didn't hesitate to help. We're here to help our neighbors in all ways. In Tambo especially, it is encouraged to work along with the locals, even while we're preaching, because there is a misconception here that we're lazy and don't work because we're in the ministry all the time. This, as we know, is obviously not true, but we use opportunities, like the one above, to prove that rumor false.
And in the end...
We got it out!
The locals were so happy and thanked us numerous times for the help. We have preached to these people in the past, but maybe next time, with even better results!
Thumbs up for good work!:)
